Perpetual Futures Explained — a Bet on a Coin's Future Price
A perpetual future is a bet on where a coin's price goes next. You do not own the coin. You only bet on its price.
What it is
A perpetual future (a "perp") lets you bet that a coin's price will go up or down. You do not buy the coin itself. You agree to the price change.
There is no end date. You can close your bet any time. That is what "perpetual" means.
One example with real numbers
You think a coin will rise. You put in $100. You choose 10x. Now your bet acts like $1,000.
The coin rises 10%. A normal $100 buy gains $10. Your 10x bet gains $100. Bigger win.
The coin falls 10%. Your bet loses $100. All of it. Bigger loss.
The multiplier works both ways. That is the whole story of risk.
Why people care
Perps let you bet on price moves without buying the coin. You can bet on a fall too, not just a rise. And a multiplier lets a small amount control a larger position.
There are over 900 perpetual markets to choose from. You can bet on the price of coins you could not easily hold yourself.
The risk, plainly
The gains and the losses are both amplified. You can lose more than your bet would lose on a normal buy. If the price moves hard against you, your position can be closed for you. This is called liquidation.
Perps are higher risk than a simple swap. Only use money you can afford to lose.
You never give us your money
OmniBazaar does not hold your funds. You trade through your own wallet. We route your bet to venues called Hyperliquid and Aster. You keep your keys the whole time.
Available where permitted
Perpetual futures are not available everywhere. They are not offered in the United States or Canada. If they are permitted where you are, you can find them in the app.
