Add a hardware wallet for the strongest protection
A hardware wallet is a small physical device — about the size of a USB
stick. It keeps your keys offline, so no software on your computer or phone
can reach them. Every transaction must be approved by pressing a button on
the device itself.
This works with Ledger and Trezor. It is the strongest way to protect
money you plan to hold for a while.
Why it helps
On a normal wallet, your keys live on your device. If that device is
infected, your money is at risk.
A hardware wallet keeps the keys inside the physical device. The keys never
touch your computer or phone, even while you are transacting. A thief would
need the physical device and its button press to move anything.
How you connect it
- Desktop: plug the device in with a USB cable.
- Mobile: connect with Bluetooth (this is called BLE).
Set it up, step by step
- Set up the device. Follow the screen on the hardware wallet. It gives
you its own recovery phrase. Write it down on paper and keep it private.
- Open the Ethereum app on the device. OmniCoin works with this app.
- Connect to OmniBazaar Wallet. In the wallet, choose "Connect hardware
wallet" and pick Ledger or Trezor.
- Approve on the device. When you send a transaction, the device shows
you the details. You review them and press the physical button to confirm.
What to remember
Your keys stay on the device. The recovery phrase for the device is still
yours to guard — treat it exactly like the phrase from your main wallet.
If you lose the device, your funds are still safe as long as you have the
recovery phrase. And if someone finds the device but not the phrase, they
still cannot move your money.
The catch, said plainly
A hardware wallet is a little more work than a click. You carry a device,
connect it, and press a button for each transaction. For most people that
tradeoff is worth it — it is the closest thing crypto has to a lockbox.
Your next step
Open the app — free, nothing to install. When you are ready, connect your
Ledger or Trezor and move the funds you want to hold long-term onto it.
